I have not been up in our 195 since October and Kurtis only flew a couple times between then and now. It was just so cold and so snowy this winter that flying wasn’t too appealing. This is certainly an unusual sentiment in the Arnold household. Since owning our 195 we have managed to fly between 190 and 210 hours in a calendar year. We are starting off 2014 a little behind!
The idea to have an early spring hangar party was something we had been thinking about for a while. With our lack of air-time, due to a long, very cold and snowy winter, it seemed even more fitting to have a “Kick-off Flying Season Hangar Party”. When we settled on a date for the party we were clueless to the fact that we had picked Easter weekend (due to my profession, tax season always prevents us from really enjoying this holiday weekend)!
On Saturday, April 19th there was a bit of a wind from the north-east but the sky was clear and the sun was shining. Spring (and flying season) might have finally sprung! We opened the hangar doors to enjoy an afternoon of food, fellowship and sunshine with lots of friends, new and old.
Our best guess is that there were between 80-90 people throughout the afternoon. Lots of people drove in but there were 9 aircraft that arrived for the party – Brian Shury & girls in their 195, James & David Powell in their 150, Steve Gray in a Thruxton Jackaroo, Dave & Pam Bruce in their 170, Brian Hirman & family in a Warrior, Dave & Tammy Martin in their Cherokee 6, Blaine Morton in a 150, Richard & Marilyn Cooper in their Bell 222 and Alf Beam in his T-28. Thank you to everyone who was able to come!
I don’t know about everyone else but I certainly had a great day!
